Velayati: Iran, Turkey are highly important Islamic states

EghtesadOnline: Head of the Center for Strategic Research Studies of the Expediency Council Ali-Akbar Velayati said on Sunday that Iran and Turkey are highly important Islamic states being influential in future of the Muslim World.

He mde the remarks in a meeting with Turkish Ambassador to Tehran Reza Hakan Tekin.

Velayati said what people of Turkey did in the face of the coup plotters was noteworthy and very great, according to IRNA.

'We are happy that the meeting happens after failed coup and we are very pleased to see success of people in defeating the coup.'

Velayati made clear that Iranian and the Turkish governments do not follow identical foreign policy.

'Certain differences of opinion and stances between the two sides will not make them remain indifferent to the existing commonalties, which are highly important for expansion of relations between the two countries.'

Tekin for his part thanked Velayati for solidarity with Ankara government.

'Purging is underway in Turkey because the group Gulen did not act like other terrorist groups.'

Such events are very agonizing but Ankara is thankful of the stances of Iranian officials vis-à-vis the coup, said Tekin, adding that fortunately, in the past 10 years, relations between the two countries were so deep.

Amnesty International and the human rights organizations have expressed outrage at systematic violation of human rights in Turkey after the abortive coup.
