Iran to establish 5.000 MW renewable power plants

EghtesadOnline: Iranian Power Minister Hamid Chit-Chian said that the country is going to establish renewable power plants with the capacity of 5.000 MW in next five years.

“Regarding our water and electricity plans, we have complied ourselves to our commitments based on the United Nations climate change conference, (COP21) on reducing release of green gases,” he said in a meeting with French Minister of Environment, Energy and Marine Resources Ségolène Royal  here in Tehran.

According to ISNA, Iran is of good potential in terms of power. Its power plant capacity now hits 75.000 MW, 12.000 MW of which belongs to hydro-power plants and renewable energies, 1.000 MW to nuclear energy and the remaining to thermal power stations, Chit-Chian said.

He said that Iran has made planning for establishing power plants with the capacity of 7500 MW by 2030. 5.000 MW of which is going to be established by the next 5 years which could be field of cooperation between Iran and France.

Chit-Chian said that Iran has concluded the first agreement for establishing geothermal power plant with the capacity of 5 MW, and “We are ready for cooperation with France in this field.”
