President Rouhani urges deeper economic relations with Australia

EghtesadOnline: President Hassan Rouhani urged deeper economic relations with Australia and said the two countries could work to further develop ties.

In a meeting with the new Australian Ambassador to Tehran Ion David Grant Biggs on Sunday, he said the two countries have been incapable of exploiting their full economic capacities despite their friendly political relations, reports IRNA.

Stressing the importance of banking relations in promoting bilateral relations, he hoped for growth of economic, scientific and trade relations between Iran and Australia within the framework of national interests.

The President also said he hoped Australia would treat refugee-seekers within the framework of international regulations.

He also said terrorism was a global threat tackling of which demanded collective and international measures.

The Australian diplomat celebrated half a century of uninterrupted diplomatic relations between the two countries and said the establishment of joint trade commission will provide a good chance for promoting trade and economic relations.

He also stressed the need for expanding banking relations and private sector activities.
