Iran’s heavyweight Paralympics weightlifter wins gold medal in Rio

EghtesadOnline: Iranian athlete in the 107 plus kilograms category of Rio 2016 Paralympics won gold medal on Wednesday evening.

While competing with eight Paralympics athletes, Siamand Rahman could break the record by holding up a 310 kilogram weight above his head.

In his first attempt, Rahman much easily lifted 270kg. Then in his second and third attempts, he lifted 300 kg and 310 kg, respectively.

According to IRNA, Rahman’s performance changed all records of the Paralympics weightlifting. 

The Iranian squad has won 4 gold, 5 silver and three bronze medals in the tournament so far.

The 15th edition of Paralympic games officially began in the Brazilian capital on September 18. Iran has attended the event with 111 athletes, 88 of them are men and 23 others are women.
