No new plans in Majlis to re-examine oil contracts: Official

EghtesadOnline: Majlis has no intention to consider a fresh bill on Iranian oil contracts, a parliamentarian said Saturday.

Hossein Amiri Khamkani said the taskforce which is in charge of examining the government ratifications against the laws has the final say regarding the status of oil contracts.

Talking to IRNA on the new oil contracts, he said the parliament will only review directives on implementing the new oil contracts but have no discussions about the details of the contracts.

Petroleum Minister Bijan Zangeneh said on Tuesday he held talks with Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani to review the new oil contracts.

Zangeneh and Larijani decided to make amendments to the model for new oil contracts.

He said that the new oil contracts do not need to be approved by the Parliament.

The Petroleum Ministry is expected to present to the parliament speaker the bills passed by the cabinet ministers about development projects on oil and gas, Zangeneh said.

He said that if the parliament speaker and the committee in charge of regulating the Majlis approvals make objections to the contracts, they will be sent back to the government for amendments, otherwise, they will be made to law.

Ministry of Petroleum was obliged to review the oil contract models upon an order given by the Supreme Leader to make sure that national interests are being protected.
